Growing from tarnished soil 🌱
I did not know exactly where I wanted to begin this reflection of my 2021.
Last year, I was overwhelmed with a slight sense of relief that Montgomery and I were in a new apartment, that I had made it passed my first 90 days in my Vice President Director role without quitting, and that I was beginning to save money again. I thought 2021 would be a year of thriving and living for me.
For someone who has been on their own since their 18th birthday, financial security is very important for my emotional and mental health. When I do not feel financially secure, my anxiety and PTSD worsens.
As a Black cisgender woman living in a global society imbued with and by white supremacy, it is a vulnerability that has left many people to attempt to exploit it so that they feel I am controllable—as all Black people should be controlled, right…?
